ŽoSIT

ŽoSIT is a bitter blend of five herbs in which dandelion leaf and peppermint leaf share half, with angelica root, yarrow and centaury alongside them. The mint gives the blend its freshness, and angelica and centaury the bitterness.

Father Simon Ašič recommended this blend where the gall bladder was a trouble and the digestion of fatty food slow; bitter plants and mint were traditionally used for that. Gallstones and pain under the right ribs call for a doctor; with a blocked bile duct, bitter teas are not drunk.

Preparation: Pour 3 decilitres of boiling water over two teaspoons of the blend. Leave it covered for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink it freshly made, several times a day, within 2 hours of brewing.

The blend comes in a 50 g bag, which is enough for two to three weeks of daily drinking. The herbs are dried and blended in the Father Simon Ašič Herbal Pharmacy at Stična, to the original recipe, and the composition is set out in per cent below the description. Tea is no substitute for a varied diet or for treatment; in illness, ask a doctor or a pharmacist.
