Herbs traditionally used for colds and coughs

Chest teas, syrups and drops, the things people here reach for at the first scratch in the throat. The recipes are Ašič's and the herbs are the same ones that were used at Stična for decades.

The Ašič approach

Which herbs, and why

For the chest Father Ašič used ribwort plantain, mullein, elder, lime blossom, wild thyme and Iceland moss above all. Mucilaginous plants such as ribwort and marshmallow were traditionally used for a tickling cough, and elder and lime blossom for a cold.

The same herbs appear in the chest tea and in the mullein syrup; the difference is in the form, not in the plants.

How to use them

Practical, no promises

Brew the chest tea with one or two teaspoons to a cup of boiling water, cover and leave to stand for ten minutes. It is traditionally drunk warm, several times a day, freshly made.

The syrup is taken by the spoonful; the dose is on the pack.

If a fever or a cough lasts several days, worsens, or comes with difficult breathing, see a doctor. Our products are not medicines.

Most often the Chest Tea, which holds ribwort plantain, mullein and other plants traditionally used for a tickling cough. The composition is given with the product.

Is the tea suitable for children?

Some blends are also suitable for children and others are not. Ring the pharmacist and say the age of the child; he will advise what is suitable.

How often should I drink the chest tea?

Traditionally several times a day, freshly made and warm. The exact instructions are on every bag.

Can I drink the tea alongside cold medicines?

Using the product is no substitute for treatment with prescribed medicines. If you take medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

When should I see a doctor instead of drinking tea?

With a high fever, difficult breathing, severe pain, or if the trouble lasts more than a few days. A herbal tea is a help to how you feel, not a substitute for an examination.
