Appetite Tea

The Appetite Tea is a bitter blend of seven herbs: camomile flower at 30 %, yarrow at 20 %, and caraway, marjoram, anise, gentian root and centaury. Gentian and centaury are bitter plants, which is why the blend is drunk without sugar and half an hour before a meal.

In folk tradition bitter plants were taken before a meal, for the appetite and the digestion; Father Simon Ašič recommended them where the appetite was poor and the digestion slow, and also to older people and those recovering.

Preparation: Pour 3 decilitres of boiling water over two teaspoons of the blend. Leave it covered for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink it freshly made, several times a day, within 2 hours of brewing.

The blend comes in a 50 g bag, which is enough for two to three weeks of daily drinking. The herbs are dried and blended in the Father Simon Ašič Herbal Pharmacy at Stična, to the original recipe, and the composition is set out in per cent below the description. Tea is no substitute for a varied diet or for treatment; in illness, ask a doctor or a pharmacist.
