What goldenrod is
the herb of goldenrod (Solidaginis herba)
Goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea) is our native perennial with yellow panicles on an upright stem, growing in open woodland, in clearings, at the edges of woods and on embankments. It flowers in late summer, when most meadow plants have long since gone over.
The flowering herb is gathered, that is the upper third of the shoot with its panicle, in August and September, in dry weather. It is dried in the shade; if the drying is too slow the panicles go over and shed into down, which spoils the drug.
The native goldenrod must not be confused with the non-native Canadian and giant goldenrods, which are invasive here and grow much taller. In Ašič's collection the herb of goldenrod appears in the UroSIT, VodaSIT and DiaSIT blends.
