Kidney stones and gravel

Customer's question

I was recently told I have kidney stones. My doctor says to drink plenty of fluids. Is any tea better for this than plain water?

The pharmacist's answer

The first thing to say: kidney stones are a matter for your doctor, and the advice about fluids you were given is the most important thing you can do. Nothing you read here replaces it.

As for the question about tea, in folk tradition mild blends of nettle, horsetail and birch leaves are traditionally used for the urinary tract. Their role is mainly that a person drinks more than they otherwise would. A warm tea is easier to drink than cold water, and that should not be underestimated.

We make a blend under the name UroSIT. It is drunk during the day, not in the evening.

What we do not recommend: strong infusions, and drinking it every day for a long time without talking to your doctor, especially alongside medicines for blood pressure or for passing water.

If pain, blood in the urine or a fever appears, that is not a question for a pharmacy.
