Humulus lupulus L
The hop (Humulus lupulus) is a climber known here above all from the Savinja valley fields. The dried female flower heads, the cones, are used. Traditionally used for restlessness and trouble falling asleep.
What hops is
the cones of hops (Lupulin strobuli)
The hop (Humulus lupulus) is a vigorous climber which grows over six metres in a single season and twines to the right; here it is known above all from the fields of the Savinja valley. The cones are used, that is the flower heads of the female plants, light green and papery.
The cones are picked in August and early September, while they are still green and rustle between the fingers, with a yellow powder called lupulin on the inside of the scales; it carries the scent and the bitterness. They are dried quickly and at a low temperature, because too high a heat costs the lupulin its value; dried cones are delicate and must not be crumbled.
In Ašič's collection hop cones appear in the evening blends MirSIT and NočSIT, where they are one of two ingredients found nowhere else.
