The favourable effects of taking Father Simon Ašič's Artichoke Drops

80 % of cholesterol is made in the liver, and the other 20 % we get from food. The enzyme HMG-CoA reductase takes part in the making of cholesterol in the liver. The artichoke inhibits the activity of this enzyme and so causes less cholesterol to be made in the liver. Experiments have shown that the compound luteolin in the artichoke has the greatest inhibiting effect on this enzyme.

By taking artichoke drops, 15 drops three times a day with meals, we lower the amount of LDL cholesterol and fats in the blood. In consequence we also slow down the process of atherosclerosis.

Two bitter compounds are known in the artichoke: cynaropicrin and grosheimin. All the bitter compounds in the artichoke increase the making of bile in the liver and the release of bile from the gall bladder. This makes digestion easier for us. Poor digestion or constipation can be improved by taking artichoke drops.

In the artichoke we also find inulin. This is another very useful substance; it is food for the good bacteria of the genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in the large bowel. In it we also find chlorogenic and caffeic acid, flavonoids, potassium, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin C and others.
