The prostate and medicinal herbs

The prostate is a male sex gland that lies below the bladder and encircles the first part of the urethra. After the age of 40 benign prostatic hyperplasia often develops, that is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. Although this change is not yet cancerous, it can cause quite a range of inconveniences. Because of pressure on the bladder and narrowing of the urethra, the outflow of urine can be reduced, so that urine is retained in the bladder, and this causes frequent inflammation of the bladder and kidneys. The retention of urine and the passing of toxic substances into the body can even cause poisoning, or sepsis.

The disease of benign prostatic hyperplasia is divided into three stages:

Stage 1

The urethra is only partly narrowed. The patient often feels the need to pass water, especially at night. The stream is weak, often interrupted, and passing water burns. There is always a feeling that the bladder has not been completely emptied. A tea blend of goldenrod, corn silk, birch leaves, parsley root and nettle eases these problems.

Stage 2

The prostate is already greatly enlarged. Urine is retained in the bladder. Birch leaves, field horsetail, corn silk and small-flowered willowherb help with these problems.

Stage 3

In the third stage of the disease active emptying of urine is no longer possible. The bladder is at maximum size and urine is passed in drops. An operation is needed, otherwise inflammation of the bladder and kidneys sets in. A nodularly enlarged prostate can turn cancerous. At this stage a tea blend of birch leaves, nettle, field horsetail, basil, heather flowers and small-flowered willowherb can help.

Small-flowered willowherb is an exceptionally medicinal remedy for the prostate and its troubles, and also for diseases of the kidneys and bladder. A tea blend of lady's bedstraw leaves, nettle, goldenrod, heather flowers and small-flowered willowherb is recommended for drinking in prostate cancer.
